The Winter Session of Parliament which started with many delays on 15th December came to an end today. During the session, a total of 24 legislative bills were introduced in the 14-day course but only 3 were passed by both the houses. Along with the session’s end, the contentious Triple talaq bill couldn’t find its way out. This bill is now suspended to the budget session which is to begin in less than a month.
The winter session of the Parliament ended with no conclusion on the deadlock of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill. The bill makes the triple talaq (instant divorce) or Talaq-e-biddat a criminal offense. This bill was long ago passed in the Lok Sabha but it still waits for the green signal from the Rajya Sabha where the ruling party has less number. The opposition has shown its support for the bill but doubts the intention of the ruling party and is stuck on the point of getting the bill reviewed by a Select Committee for detailed scrutiny.
