Attention Lucknowites! 6 Reasons Why You Cannot Afford To Miss ‘Dastan-e-Awargi’ | Dastangoi

In case you have (somehow!)  failed to notice all the excitement around you, let us update you on what’s going on.

Dastan e Awargi

Bewajah, is organizing Dastaan-e-Awargi, a Dastangoi presentation on the life, times and poetry of romantic and revolutionary poet Majaz Lakhnavi on 31st July, 2016.

For those of you who do not know about this beautiful art form, here is a quick explanation:

Dastangoi is the art of storytelling in Urdu in which a Dastango (storyteller) orally recreates the dastan (story) with his voice being the main artistic tool.

This 16th century art form became immensely popular in India in the early 19th century. However, after the death of Mr Baqar Ali in the year 1928, Dastangoi began to lose its popularity and over the years this art form was lost in pages of history.

Urdu critic and poet Shamshur Rahman Faruqi and his nephew, writer and director Mahmood Farooqui are credited with the revival of Dastangoi since the year 2005.

Popular dastango duo Ankit Chadha and Himanshu Bajpai are all set to take you on an unforgettable journey through never-heard -before tales in the upcoming event. The presentation is being directed by Mahmood Farooqi and produced by Anusha Rizvi.

So call your friends and book your seats, here are 6 reasons why you cannot afford to miss Dastan e Awargi
